Pine and Pie Wood Derby

Our ward decided to have a Pie and Pine Wood Derby night just because they though it would be fun.  So the Saturday before we worked on making our car to race.  For the longest time we couldn’t figure out what to do for our car.  At first we thought it would be fun to do the MAV (not the basketball team but the Mormon Assault Vehicle also known as our big red 15 passenger bus!) but Blaine was stubborn and refused to do that so we had to come up with a different idea and funnily enough I think ever one in the family agreed we had the cutest car there!

That’s right we did Calvin and Hobbes in their little red wagon!   It was so cute!  We did lose but that’s okay we had a lot of fun working together to create this masterpiece!  Lora is an amazing artist,  she did a really good sculpting and then painting our Calvin and Hobbes.  Unfortunately, we had to spend hours hollowing them out to make sure we weren’t over our weight limit.  Blaine and Zach painted the wagon, Mom and Dad carved out the wagon shape and then Josh sorta helped Lora with the sculpting.  I was in charge of making the wagon handle out of a paper clip and then painting that and the tires white!  Like I said every participated in some way.

Like I said we lost miserably, and on our very first race Calvin decided to jump and go flying straight into the wood floor!  We thought he was a goner! He lost an arm and a leg and got a nice crack down his side but thankfully Dad was able to patch him back up with some hot glue and race with quite a few more times!

Also since there was a pie contest I thought I would enter in a pie.  It’s a secret recipe I invented when I was about 8 and honestly when you look at the ingredients you would never guess it would be that good,  but it is one of the most amazing pies I have ever eaten, here’s the recipe:

Nikki’s Surprise Pie

1 can apple pie filling

1 can peach pie filling

1.5 cup frozen strawberries

1.5 cup frozen blueberries

Mix all the ingredients together and put in pie shells; Makes enough for 2 pies.

It’s as simple as that and apparently I’m not the only one who thinks it’s delicious because I got 2nd place in the contest!!! The first place winner was Sis. James who is an amazing baker so I had no chance against her!

It was a fun night and I was glad I got to spend it with my favorite people, my family even Zach who was being the most annoying kid on the face of the planet… until he gagged all over the floor that calmed him right down and he was pretty good for the rest of the night.
