One day the Goober and I decided to get some root beer in the glass bottles (we ended up getting black cherry soda but that's not the point). Well we had six of these empty bottles and I had seen some pins on pintrest that said you could cut them pretty easily with yarn, nail polish remover, ice water, and fire... Needless to say the pyro was excited to try that. After three attempts with not so much as a crack in the bottle, I looked for a different approach. This one required a glass cutter so I printed off my 40% coupon and headed to my local craft store to pick one up.
Basically what you do is score the glass where you want to cut it with the glass cutter. Then you poor boiling water along the score line and then cold tap water from the sink along it. The drastic temperature change in the glass causes it to crack along the score mark (usually).
My first attempt was not so good (on the left) I didn't have a straight score line and it ended up cracking up and down into my glass. But attempt two worked like a charm. Out of the six glasses I had three ended up failing (two of them were because my scoring was bad but once I fixed that the rest work pretty well).
After cutting the tops off sand the rims down (carefully) with sand paper and volia, glasses out of bottles. Now you can paint or do what ever to them!

At what point do you wake up one morning and decide, "Hey, I want to make my own glasses--how can I do that". haha Hats off to you creative girl. You really are omnipotent!
