Since school’s almost about to start, one of my church friends Darryl decided we should all have one last big thing before he leaves to go back up to Rexburg, Idaho and he decided it would be a great idea to go and have a fire up at Erwin Park. I had no problems with that and thought it would be way fun to roast hot dogs and s’mores without any parents around, the only problem that I had is that I am the most directionally challenged person you will probably ever meet and to combine that with my not so great driving skills would have been a disaster! As a result I convinced my best friend Rachael to drive there so 1. I would get there in one piece and 2. There would at least be someone else to there and things wouldn’t be awkward.
We knew the general direction of the park but we weren’t sure exactly where every one else was so once we we’re close to the area we called up Emily to get directions to the campsite…unfortunately she thought we were somewhere else and told us to go left instead of the right we should have so we ended up taking a side trip to Prosper and Celina before we realized we had gone the wrong way!
We finally did arrive at the campsite and the boys (Darryl, Jon and Cameron) started up the fire. They used an entire bottle of lighter fluid and had a lot of fun smashing slabs of wood with a sledge hammer and then lighting it on fire. Emily, Rachael and I thought it was best to leave them be and made sure we were a safe distance away and then proceeded to make fun of the boys.
Once the fire was cool enough that you could cook some food on it without burning your hand off, we had some hot dogs, s’mores, and starbursts! Starbursts are the best campfire food there this! You just have to try it, they are delicious!
Unfortunately Erwin Park closes at 10:00, so once the boys put out the fire with ice cubes from the cooler that we used for our drinks (root beer and 7up) we all went over to Rachael’s house and watched the Nicholas Cage movie Next. All in all it’s a pretty decent movie but I hate it when the best part of the movie doesn’t actually happened and I’ve watched the whole thing only to find out I’ve been lied to this entire time!
