Halloween Costume: Bag Tutorial

The last piece of my costume is the bag. Every Pokemon trainer needs a place to hold their pokedex!

I bought my fabric and cut out my pieces. I wanted my bag to be small and it ended up being about 6 by 8 inches.

So what you end up with is:
1 9"x14" rectangle with rounded edges (the front of the bag)
2 9"x16" rectangles with rounded edges (the back and lid of the bag)
2 3"x3" squares (holds the rings to the bag)
2 24"x3" rectangle (middle of the bag)
1 3"x50" rectangle (the strap)
You also need some small squarish rings to attach the strap to the bag.

First take the 2 9"x16" rounded rectangles and put them right sides together. Then sew around the top part and down the sides leaving about 7" and the bottom un-sewed.

Turn in inside out, this will be the front flap of the bag.

Sew the top and bottom of the 2 24"x3" strips together.

Turn inside out.

Take the piece you just sewed together and starting with the middle pin it to the edge of the 1 9"x14" round rectangle that has been folded in half. The strap will probably end up being a little longer than the edge but that's fine just fold over the tops and it'll make a nice clean edge on the top. Sew the pieces together

Pin and sew to the flap and back piece as well.

Sew the other three pieces into tubes and turn them right side out. Use the two metal rings and sew the two small pieces to the sides of the bag. Sew the large strap on to the metal rings and that's it! You can even pin your Pokemon badges on your bag to show them off.
